AJ Architecture Awards recognise New Pooley Bridge in shortlisting

We are delighted that our replacement Lake District crossing has been shortlisted by the AJ Architecture Awards jury (Infrastructure & Transport category) for its significant design contribution.

The flood-resilient and future-proof bridge was conceived following the collapse of the original 18th century stone bridge during Storm Desmond in 2015. The new structure will be intimately linked to the identity of the village – perhaps for the next 250 years – so it was vital that the community could contribute to the design. Knight Architects led an exceptional and meaningful engagement process which involved carefully listening to the community and focusing on their common aspirations to create an unanimously supported design that met their ambition for a high-quality new crossing.
