Cumbrian bridge wins RIBA North West Award
28 April 2022
We are thrilled to receive a RIBA North West Award 2022 for New Pooley Bridge! The replacement structure, which followed the destruction of the original 18th century stone arch bridge in 2015, was carefully designed following an intense stakeholder engagement process.
Commenting on the project, the jurors noted: "The combination of innovation in design and community engagement has delivered a truly unique project with embedded social value. The project demonstrates the journey from community sensitivity following trauma, through logistical complications of delivery, to a piece of design appropriately embedded in a designated World Heritage landscape. The material choices demonstrate technological advancement and carbon saving. The architects have delivered a piece of infrastructure that feels very much part of the town."
Congratulations to all our design and construction partners on the scheme.
