HS2 viaduct reaches structural completion

16 October 2024

Britain’s longest new rail bridge, the Colne Valley Viaduct, recently reached structural completion, as the final pre-cast segment of the 3.4km viaduct was lifted into place. The bridge is the most significant visible element of the entire HS2 line, and we are proud to have played a part in the development of this extraordinary structure. Working closely with EDP (Atkins Jacobs Sener) from a very early stage, we developed the specimen design for HS2, defining the key design principles of the viaduct. We then led an expansive and meaningful engagement programme with the Colne Valley Regional Park Panel to communicate the design principles to the local community and key stakeholders.

In recent weeks, several teams from KA visited the site to experience the structure up close and see how the next phases of work are progressing. We were all incredibly impressed with the quality of the build, the dedication and pride of everyone we met on site and the collaboration across the entire design and logistics teams that's clearly evident.
