International rail crossing selected as finalist!

27 January 2025

We are delighted to share that the Küstrin-Kietz Rail Crossing has been shortlisted as one of three finalists in the Road and Railway Bridges category for the prestigious Deutscher Brückenbaupreis 2025. This renowned biennial award recognises excellence in bridge engineering, celebrating Germany’s finest new bridges, creative repairs, and innovative advancements in sustainable construction.

Conceived and designed in collaboration with Schüßler-Plan, the structure stands out for its elegant network arch spanning 130m across the River Oder. It is also the world’s first bridge to use carbon hangers, developed by schlaich bergermann partner. These innovative hangers feature cross-sectional design to reduce weight and forces, minimising material use in the arch and exemplifying sustainable modern bridge construction.

The winner will be announced on 19 March 2025 in Dresden, during the Brückenbau Symposium.
