KA to deliver major river crossing in north Auckland

09 August 2022

Knight Architects have been appointed to deliver the 535-m long Wēiti River Crossing, the central component of O Mahurangi Penlink, a new 7km-long two-lane, proposed toll road in North Auckland.

Our innovative development of an alternative concept to the reference design was a critical factor in winning the hybrid alliance tender and will deliver significant environmental improvements.

Featuring separated paths for walking and cycling, the refined design - the first of its type in New Zealand - is an extradosed concrete bridge with distinctive V-shaped towers and a slender main span of 175m over the river, crossing the most valued cultural and environmental feature within the project designation.

We are working as part of the alliance of HEB Construction, Fulton Hogan, Aurecon and Tonkin + Taylor for client Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.
