Knight Architects joins 'Big Thinking' debate at Highways UK
11 November 2019
Highways UK is a major annual event bringing together those responsible for the planning, design, construction, maintenance, operations and future-proofing of the UK's road network. This year's event, held on 6 and 7 November 2019 at the NEC, included a 'Big Thinking' strand, within which Knight Architects was invited to join a panel discussion on 'More than getting from A-B'.
Speaking alongside Mike Wilson (Chief Highways Engineer at Highways England), Cat Drew (Chief Design Officer at Design Council) and John Lyall (Highways England Design Review Panel Chair), Martin Knight discussed the challenges of beautiful roads in the context of Highways England's The Road to Good Design manifesto.
The aspirational discussion explored the significant progress that's been made to support good design, whilst acknowledging the shift in culture still needed within the roads sector to promote beauty and social value in everyday infrastructure.
