Knight Architects secures €200m project in southern Germany
15 May 2023
We are delighted to be working with with Konstruktionsgruppe Bauen and tunnelling specialist Boll und Partner to deliver a major new infrastructure project in Ulm, Germany. As part of the city's urban and landscape masterplan, this project is critical in establishing greater access to green spaces and improving transport connectivity for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. Crucially, a historic city building, the Blaubeurer Tor, will also become a renewed focal point for the city.
The current Wallstraßenbrücke highway bridge needs urgent replacement and Knight Architects will design a new 190m crossing over the main railway corridor to connect Autobahn A8 to the city centre. Pedestrian and cycle decks will also establish a link between Ulm's north and the city centre.
This will be our second project in the city, having designed the award-winning Kienlesbergbrücke - a tram and pedestrian/cycle crossing that opened in 2018.
