Sam White harks back to his youth for RIBA Journal

To help launch the 2020 RIBA Journal MacEwen Award programme and as one of last year's winners, Knight Architects was invited to consider a project that we feel demonstrates architecture for the common good. Director Sam White, who designed the award-winning Knostrop Footbridge, cast his mind back to his youth and the remote farming community of Burtle in Somerset. It was here that, through a combination of skill, passion and sheer determination, a group of local volunteers imaginatively rebuilt their village hall, and with it reinvigorated the community.
