Walnut Footbridge successfully lifted into place
23 September 2021
There was palpable excitement in Guildford this week as the replacement Walnut Footbridge was craned into position over the River Wey in glorious September sunshine.
It was an especially poignant moment for us as the bridge was designed by our late colleague and friend Sam White. He would have loved seeing his creation, with its feature soffit, carefully manoeuvred into place over the River Wey.
The bridge will improve a vital east-west connection within the town masterplan, increasing capacity for pedestrians and cyclists travelling between the station and the town centre. We can't wait to see it in use when it opens to the public later this autumn.
Congratulations to the team of Guildford Borough Council, Volker Laser, Arcadis and SH Structures.
